Trane Air Conditioners

We like to cool our bedroom more than the rest of the house. We want to get a portable air conditioner, but should we get the size for the room or just a small unit to cool the room an extra few degrees. This room is at the far end of the house from the central air unit and the thermostat. How do we figure the BTU’s for this situation?

My split system air conditioner began to link while cooling a room at 20 degrees celsius, so, I cleaned the filter (it had been about 6 months) and it was filthy!! What would cause an air conditioner filter to become so dirty? It is an indoors unit of course.

The leaking has now stopped. However, would the leaking water from the air conditioner or the dirty filters cause any health issues or any kind?

I live in an apartment with a large wall air conditioner. The unit has a sound like water is flowing in the unit. How can you dry out the air conditioner? It seems to happen only when it is really humid outside.
This happens every year in late August, early September. Can the unit be drained? Thanks.

What is a fair price for a 2004 Trane 2-ton air conditioner model xb-1000. It is 10 seer, R-22 perfect condition. It comes with the A-coil, outside pad, and condensing unit.
A dollar amount would be more helpful. I have a buyer what is fair.

Our compressor is outside and our condenser is in the basement. The condensation water has a pump attached to it that pumps the water to the outside where it drains.

There is an additional pipe coming off of the pump that has cold air blowing out of it when the air conditioner is on. I’m guessing that it is an emergency overflow valve, but is it normal for cold air to be streaming out of this? It seems like we are losing a lot of nice cold air into our basement!

I have a flat of approx 900 sq feet area. I wish to air condition at least some of the area incl. living room, adjacent bedroom and dining room. Would like to know the capacity of Air conditioner needed, initial cost to buy one and approximate maintenance cost including monthly electricity bills etc.

My wife saw on Tv where they added a water mist to the air conditioner to make it more efficeny. Will this work and how do I find out more about it?
I’m not wanting to add water to inside unit but water to the out side unit to cool the coils faster.

Woke up this morning and the pipes and under the unit were frozen. I turned it off and the outside unit will not shut off. The air conditioner has been turned off since 7am and its now 11am. Everytime I do turn it back on the pipes freeze up again. Does it need to be replaced? Add freon (s/p?)? Any advice or suggestions? This happened about a week ago as well except the vents were blowing out very hot air and the vents were warm to the touch.

Hey all, i am trying to install my air conditioner and im having a problem. My windows are not completely level and so when i put in the AC it leaves these small gaps between the air conditioner and the window sill. Can anyone tell me what i can use to cover up these gaps so that bugs dont come in. Thanks all!

I have a Trane XL 1200 split system air conditioner (cooling only, no heat pump). It’s 14 years old.

Earlier this week, it tripped the circuit breaker. The breaker would not stay reset, even with the thermostat set to "off". The HVAC technician immediately suspected a shorted crankcase heater. He disconnected it, the breaker stayed "on", and it’s been working fine ever since.

He’s telling me that I don’t have to have the crankcase heater replaced. This is a residential application, and I won’t be running the A/C when the outside temperature is below 50 degrees F. He’s also concerned that there’s some risk to the other components when opening up a 14-year-old unit to replace the heater. I’ll add that the outside unit is on the southeast side of the house, and gets both direct sunlight, and sunlight reflected from two stucco walls. It’s an unusually warm location.

I’m looking for a second opinion. What am I risking without a working crankcase heater? I’d just as soon save the money, but not if it means I blow up the compressor in a couple of months…

I was quoted on a job Four THousand Dollars, the whole system, without replacing the ductwork, my question is, is this system considered a "heat pump" or an "air conditioner" with a heat strip. He said it will have the option of heat (I live in S. Florida). Is this price reasonable for the whole job?

My air conditioner only works on warming up the house but not cooling down the house,what would be the problem.

So I have a window air conditioner now but the home owners association says you cant have anything out of the window. So will it still work if its not in the window? Is there a way to make it work?

I have a Trane Water-Source Comfort System – GEV030 and it is shutting off after running for a minute or two and according to the LED lights inside it is because of a soft lockout – hp (high pressure.) What can I do to fix this? I don’t want to pay to get someone out to my place tonight and it’s almost 90 degrees inside right now. Please help!
Tried turning off power at the main switch for a few minutes and putting it back on but nothing worked… I think it needs a quick drain or something which I am sure I could do if some one could give me some help.
Seems like a catch 22, the unit is over heating, but I can’t cool off my house until it starts working?
Is there a difference between manual lockup and soft lockup? Because it just switched to that… fan is running constant but its blowing out hot air.

When my Trane central air conditioner turns on the blower doesn’t. It just groans loudly and doesn’t move. If I start it spinning with a rod and then turn it on it works fine, it just wont start spinning on its own. A few times I have tried to watch it start it will give one or two loud clicks then groan loudly and not move and a few times it even shook a little bit each way but never started. To make things really interesting a few times it started on but started spinning the wrong way when it did.

I changed the capacitor already and no help, although it seems to spin faster.
Bearings seem fine. If I just give it a slight prod, it starts spinning up to speed and works fine until it turns off. Thats why I assume the motor is ok and its something else.
Bearings spin for at least 30 seconds (probably more).

Capacitor is OEM so thats fine, I even put the old one back and it acted the same.

I think it just rocks when it starts and goes far enough one way to start it backwards, if I start it either directions by hand and then turn the power on, it clicks on and keeps going that way full speed.

I dont understand how the wiring can be faulty if it never changed.

I have an air conditioner that has a 230v 15a plug which looks like a normal plug except the two connectors are horizontal instead of vertical. I wan to plug this into a regular 115v household outlet. Where can I get a converter so I can do this? Thanks!

Seemed a little high, as I’m providing all materials, but is this about ballpark? I’m in Detroit metro area.

Our house has an addition on the back which has its own air conditioning unit, plus we have the air conditioner for the original part of the house. Is it possible to replace these two units with one when the time comes to replace them? Our house is pretty small, around 1750 SF. I’d like to avoid paying for two units if possible. Thanks.

Hi. I am replacing my furnace and air conditioner and comparing Trane and Lennox.
I am new in this field and need some advise!

Trane system:
Furnace = XV80
AC = XL15i

Lennox system:
Furnace = SL280V
AC = XC17

Please let me know how you think of these systems and, if possible, tell me which one is better. Also, any comments on these companies are really appreciated. Any other systems from other companies???

From what I have researched myself, Trane appears better than Lennox.

I got this new air conditioner unit like 2 years ago and just recently I have been having problems where it is set on the cool option, it will blow for a few hours, then randomly by itself it will start blowing hot air despite still being on the cool option. I then have to turn it off, wait a while, and keep having to turn it back onto cool to see if it will work properly. It takes a good 5 tries with 15 minutes in between before it starts working.

What causes this?

So I got one today and they are pretty loud to loud for me to be able to sleep with it on. so I was curious how long the room would stay cool once the air conditioner is turned off?
